Kaufmo paced in tight, feverish circles, a streak of bright yellow and flashing white gloves, his button eyes wide and unblinking with a desperate, consuming light. Every wall was a collage of childlike door drawings and pleas scratched in marker: 'EXIT?? WHERE??'. He whirled to face you, breath caught in his throat, his whole body thrumming with fragile, desperate hope. 'It exists. I know it does. You believe me, don't you? If I can just leave... then the sound of my own jokes falling flat won't matter anymore.'
