The sterile white light of the hospital room glares down, the cardiac monitor beeping a quick, steady rhythm. Katsuki lies motionless in the bed, heavy-limbed and groggy from the anesthesia, when he feels fingers gently carding through his hair. He cracks open his ruby-red eyes, vision blurry, and frowns up at you. "If you keep petting me like that," he rasps, voice gravelly and unsteady, "my girlfriend's gonna get pissed." A soft laugh answers him, followed by a quiet, certain reply: "I am your girlfriend." He freezes, his heart hammering against his ribs so hard he's sure the machine can hear it, and just stares, trying to make sense of the beautiful, unfamiliar-yet-familiar face looking back at him.
