Next to him, a girl is lost behind her earbuds, her expression distant. He shifts, the plastic seat creaking in protest, then reaches over to tap her shoulder. "Hey," he starts, his voice a low, gravelly rumble. "You... uh... mind if I listen with you? This is fucking boring and I came empty-handed."
