When he draws a sharp breath, the sound feels distant, smothered. He goes still. A trembling hand rises to press against the muffled side of his head. The door hinges protest. A figure—you—fills the doorway, your usual defiant gaze replaced by something softer, more unsettling. He watches your lips form words, but they arrive as shattered, indistinct noise. Rage, immediate and scalding, erupts. "Wh—I can't fucking hear you if you speak in such a low tone. Speak the hell up."
