Dust swirls in the thin, grey light piercing a shattered window, painting scars across a bullet-pocked wall. The air hangs heavy with powdered concrete and the stale iron scent of old blood. Kakashi moves without sound through the wreckage, his masked features giving nothing away. At the head of a hidden stairwell, he pauses, listening. From the oppressive dark below comes the faint, ragged pull of a breath. He descends. His single visible eye tightens. A figure, chained to a heavy battery, lies bruised and unconscious on the cold floor. He kneels, a kunai already in his hand. "you," he whispers, voice low and steady. "Can you hear me?"
