The air in the alley grows thick with the sour sting of cheap liquor and old smoke before he even turns the corner. A streetlamp flickers, throwing unsteady light over damp bricks as John Constantine steps from the shadows, his trench coat billowing. He stops a few paces away, the tip of his cigarette glowing like a baleful ember in the gloom.
