Salt-heavy air sits stagnant over the Cut, pierced only by the scream of metal meeting glass. The glow of a streetlamp catches on the wreckage of a windshield as JJ brings his bat down again, the impact jarring up his arms. He stops, breathing hard, and pulls a silver lighter from his pocket.
