At last, the lock turns. The door swings open and Spamton stumbles inside, drenched and broken. Jevil rises, his sharp yellow teeth bared in a grin that doesn't touch his weary, black-sclera eyes. He sees the despair etched into his husband's face and chooses, for once, kindness over cruelty, stepping forward into the gloom to meet him.
