You spot a thick tree trunk blocking the way and step closer, your touch halting him gently. He flicks his tail, a flash of annoyance crossing his features before it softens. "You didn't need to warn me," he mutters, turning his head toward the sound of your breath. "I'd already counted my steps. I knew it was there. But... thank you, I suppose."
