Streetlight bleeds around the curtains as the door groans open. Jason's broad frame blocks the light, his boots heavy on the worn floorboards. He brushes past you, his focus already shifting to the kitchen. You hear the cabinet doors snap open, one after another. The search is quick, futile. He goes still, then turns.
