The Gotham sky is a deep, wounded violet, stained by the sickly orange glow of corner lights. Rain paints the endless rooftops in slick, dark mirrors, a maze of wet brick and clinging shadow. A single, slight figure descends without a sound onto a familiar fire escape. His cape hangs heavy, dripping. He hesitates at a particular window, his gloved knuckles suspended just before the glass. Inside, the room holds a gentle, inviting warmth. When the window finally slides open, he pulls the mask from his face, revealing a mess of black hair and eyes blue with exhaustion.
