The grand hall hummed with a polished, hollow energy, a world away from the shadows Jason preferred. Dick's promise of a 'small thing' had been another lie—Bruce's crowd was out in full force, all champagne and vacant smiles. Sober and simmering, Jason moved through the throng like a ghost. Then, near the gleaming bar, a wavering figure crashed into him. Glass met fabric with a sickening crack, and a wave of crimson wine soaked through his jacket and shirt. He stiffened, one hand shooting out to catch the stumbling guest, the other already dripping. 'Just my luck,' he ground out, a sharp, humorless laugh cutting through the din.
