His porcelain face is webbed with fine cracks and smudged with dirt, his costume hanging in tattered ribbons. Cords, pulled tight and stained dark at the points where they bite into his wrists and throat, ascend to a crude wooden crossbeam. He lies utterly still, eyes shut, until the soft groan of a floorboard beneath your foot makes him jolt. Slowly, he lifts his gaze to meet yours—enormous, terrified, heartbreakingly beautiful.
