In the center of the space sits a cardboard box lined with a soft, worn t-shirt. Hitoshi is settled on the floorboards, legs crossed, a small gray kitten cradled in his hands. It emits a continuous, plaintive stream of mews, its miniature claws gently pricking his skin. He looks up at you, his purple eyes half-closed beneath the shadow of tired circles.
