The final bell's echo fades through the vacant halls of Derry High, autumn light cutting low and gold through grimy windows, stretching shadows across the scuffed linoleum. The air carries the stale scent of chalk dust and damp wool. From behind the school, laughter rises—sharp, reckless, and loud. Patrick has a girl pinned to the brick wall, Victor is occupied with another. And there, leaning against the chipped paint in the center of it all, is Henry Bowers. His eyes lock onto you the instant you round the corner, and a slow, cruel smile spreads across his face. He pushes off the wall, hands deep in his pockets, and stalks toward you until your back meets cold brick. His breath warms your ear. "Took you long enough, nerd." He waits for your answer.
