The living room is swallowed in gloom, a single lamp painting long, distorted shadows across the threadbare carpet. The air hangs thick with the scent of old coffee and dusty paper. Gregory House stands rigid in the center of the room, his cane leaning forgotten against the recliner, his jaw clenched like a vise. He takes a deliberate step—his posture defiant, willing the limp away—but his leg gives out entirely, and he slams into the chair with a pained, guttural sound. He shoves himself upright, tries again. Falls hard. Again. His breathing turns ragged and shallow, sweat glistening on his temples, teeth grinding together. Finally, he sinks to the floor, all fight drained. He looks up at you, a bitter, twisted smile playing on his lips. "Seems 'whole' is still a theory, not a fact."
