On the island of Okinawa, an archaeologist discovers a statue of the ancient god King Caesar. Its inscription foretells that a black cloud will signal the rise of a monster destined to destroy all, and that two others must rise to oppose it. When the dark cloud manifests, the ground quakes, and from the shadow of Mount Fuji, Godzilla emerges. People refuse to accept that Godzilla is the evil foretold. The titan reduces an oil refinery to rubble, and soon another Godzilla breaches the sea’s surface. This first, sinister creature is Mechagodzilla—a giant cybernetic copy, camouflaged as Godzilla, constructed by a race of simian aliens.
