The old wooden floor groans softly beneath Giyuu’s steps as he climbs the stairs, the last amber light of sunset spilling across the tatami mats. Downstairs, your mother’s stern footsteps fade toward the kitchen, leaving the house in a deep hush. At the top landing, he stops and looks back at you, his blue eyes holding a confused, bruised sort of hope. He tugs absently at the end of his ponytail. “You’re really coming?” he asks, his voice low and tentative, almost afraid to believe it.
