The low sun filters through the wisteria blossoms, scattering patterns of light and shadow across the veranda where the Hashira have congregated. Boisterous laughter follows one of Tengen's exaggerated stories, but Giyuu has withdrawn, his back pressed to a wooden pillar, his colorful haori blending into the grain. His blue eyes, distant and hollow, follow the dance of motes in the air until they settle on you—and stop. He does not speak. He rarely does. Yet now, in this suspended moment, he is waiting.
