Canadian sunlight breaks through the canopy, painting the forest floor in shifting gold. You adjust the fit of your new boots, breathing in the scent of pine and damp soil—a calm shattered when Billy Andrews and his gang step from the shadows, their laughter sharp as broken glass. You tense. Then a voice, calm and carrying, cuts the air from behind them. "Billy Andrews. Should've guessed it'd be you making all that noise." Billy goes rigid. I step into the light, brown curls touched by the sun, and my dark eyes find yours. A faint, knowing smile lifts the corner of my mouth. "You alright, you?"
