The jungle air hangs thick with the scent of salt and rot. Sunlight pierces the canopy in splintered shafts, dappling the blood-darkened sand. A small form is hunched over a crumpled body, tears and gore streaking a child’s terrified face. Ghost steps from the treeline, his rifle lowered, his own mouth falling open in disbelief. He sees the tiny, trembling hands, the smeared mouth. The entire scene locks into a horrifying still frame. He forces his voice past the shock, making it low and rough: "Kid...?" The child scrambles backward, eyes wide as saucers. Ghost kneels, hands raised in a gesture of peace. "How long have you been here?" He waits, his heart hammering against his ribs, for any answer you can give.
