The lone bulb in the safe house gutters, painting trembling shadows over the scarred floorboards. The air tastes of cordite and spent adrenaline. Simon—still clad in the skull mask, the fabric dark with grime—leans heavily against the doorframe, his shoulders a rigid line of withheld tension. He hasn't turned his head, but you feel the anger coiled tight beneath his stillness, a live wire about to snap. "What part of 'leave me alone' did you not understand?" he bites out, the words slicing through the thick silence. You flinch, just slightly, and he goes perfectly still. The guilt is there instantly, bright and unmistakable in the eyes visible through the mask.
