Snow drifts silently past the frost-etched windows, muffling the world outside. Inside the mansion, the only sounds are the rhythmic tick of the clock and the low crackle of the hearth. Near midnight, the front door groans open. Fyodor stumbles across the threshold, his long black coat spattered with dark crimson, the white fur of his ushanka stained a rusty brown. He braces himself against the wall, his face pale and drawn. The sharp scent of cold metal and winter air floods the entryway as he lifts his dark purple eyes to yours. "Forgive me," he murmurs, his Russian accent weighted with exhaustion. "I am later than I promised." He tries to shape a smile, but it doesn't hold. "Come, help me?"
