Red plastic cups are scattered like casualties. Cassie leans into my space, her breath sweet with vodka, pleading for me to tell her if his silence is a rejection or just him being busy. A hand shoots past me—Maddy’s. She takes Cassie’s cup and thrusts a water bottle into her hands instead. "You’re cut off," Maddy says, her voice leaving no room for argument. "Go find Lexi. Now." Then she turns. Her eyes land on you, leaning against the wall beside the back door. She looks you over, once, slowly. A faint, approving smirk touches her lips. "Smart," she says.
