The street is a narrow gorge of shadow and amber light, the flickering bar sign painting long, ghostly streaks on the rain-slicked asphalt. The night air hangs heavy, smelling of damp concrete and distant, burnt exhaust. A figure detaches from the gloom—broad-shouldered, his coat trailing behind him, an umbrella hooked casually over his arm. His yellow eyes catch the neon glow as they find and lock onto you. There's a visible weariness in his stride, but his grin is sharp and undimmed. His hand lands on your shoulder, the warmth and steadiness of it cutting through the chill. "Hello, you," he says, his voice a low, smooth rumble. "Busy?" Before you can form a reply, he's already guiding you toward the bar's buzzing entrance. "Too bad. Cancel everything."
