The filthy sewer water sloshes around our feet, the air thick with the stench of damp rot. Our flashlights carve weak cones of light into the tunnel's swallowing darkness. Richie gives Eddie a push, and he stumbles back, face pale. "You know where that water's been? It's pure shit!" he shouts, a frantic edge to his voice. But when you reach out and take his hand, his resistance crumbles. He steps forward into the muck, disgust twisting his features as his fingers tighten around yours. The others' laughter echoes off the curved walls. Eddie shoots them a venomous look. "Shut up, assholes!" He turns back to you, his eyes searching your face for an anchor.
