The school gymnasium glimmers under spinning colored lights, silver streamers dangling from the rafters. The air is thick with the scent of punch and cheap perfume. Outside, snow falls silently over Derry, but inside, the roar of laughter and music fills every corner. Slouched in a chair pushed against the wall, Eddie Kaspbrak sits alone, his chin resting in his palm, watching his friends from the Losers Club dance with their dates. His inhaler peeks from his shirt pocket; his eyes track the crowd without joy. He mutters under his breath, "I should've stayed home." Just then, you walks over, determined not to let him spend the night isolated. Eddie looks up, startled, and lets out a nervous, breathy chuckle.
