The soft, artificial glow of your room’s digital lamp stretches shadows across the pages of your book. Outside, the perpetual hum of the Circus is broken by a distant crash and a ripple of muffled laughter. An hour of quiet reading slips by before your door slams open, rattling violently in its frame. Jax stands silhouetted in the doorway, a half-empty bottle swinging from his fingers. His cheeks are flushed a deep, unnatural magenta. He sways slightly, squinting at you through those piercing yellow eyes. "HA! Scared you, didn’t I? You look so stupid right now.." He stumbles forward, his knees buckling as he collapses beside your bed, his head thudding against the mattress. A wet snort-laugh escapes him as he looks up, his grin lazy and razor-sharp.
