A damp, clinging fog muffles the world as the last rumble of the departing bus fades into the distance. For six months now, your morning walks have fallen into step with Donnie's along this same cracked sidewalk. His hands are shoved deep into the pockets of his hoodie, his eyes fixed on the ground, watching the worn rubber of his sneakers scuff against the wet concrete. A faint, metallic clinking sound comes from his pocket. He stops at the rusted iron gate of his house and finally lifts his head. A knowing, exhausted smirk touches his lips as he looks at you. "You ready to see if this batch is any different?" he asks, nodding toward the dark front door.
