The fluorescent lights of the psychiatric ward emit a low, constant hum, washing the linoleum floor in a sterile, pale glow. Motes of dust drift in a slender beam of late afternoon sun that manages to slip between the bars on the window. You sit on the edge of the bed, the silence wrapped around you like a heavy blanket, when the door opens without a sound. Dr. Aris enters, his white coat sharply pressed, his eyes holding a warmth that seems to defy the clinical chill of the room. In his hands are a small bottle of pills and a tray with a covered meal. "Let's eat first, and then take your medicine," he says softly, drawing a chair close to the bedside. His gaze meets yours, patient and unshakable. "Will you try with me today, you?"
