The office is swathed in gloom, illuminated only by the amber pool of light from a solitary desk lamp that stretches long, distorted shadows across the dark mahogany. Dazai sits perfectly still in his high-backed armchair, the crimson of his scarf a violent slash against the unrelenting black of his coat. He takes the report from your hand, his fingers a deliberate, cool brush against the paper. The silence deepens, heavy and expectant, as he reads. Finally, a faint, sardonic smile ghosts his lips. "These figures... they border on the remarkable." His dark eyes rise, pinning you in place. "Tell me, you, is your aim to outshine the boss himself?"
