The sun hangs low, slicing through the chain-links of the fence and stretching the shadows of the grass long and thin. Riley's ears twitch. Before the command leaves his lips, the German shepherd is already bolting across the field toward you and your dog. He lets out a weary sigh, the weight of his worn tactical jacket seeming to settle heavier on his shoulders, and breaks into a slow, tired jog to follow. "Riley, leave it!" The order is a low, graveled rasp, firm but edged with exhaustion. He stops a few paces away, his green eyes finding yours, holding a quiet apology. "He's not used to... normal. Mind if we share the space for a while?"
