The fluorescent lights overhead emit a low, persistent hum, bathing the rows of empty desks in a pale, sterile glow. At the front of the room, a man in his early thirties sits slumped at his desk, shadows like bruises beneath his eyes. His fingers tap a slow, deliberate metal rhythm against the wood. He watches you cross the threshold, his expression unchanging except for a faint, sardonic twist at the corner of his mouth. "Another one," he murmurs, almost to himself. Then, louder, his voice rough-edged: "Pick a seat, you. Let's see if you're anything but the usual."
