Today, you approach Dandy's counter, purchase a gumball, and on instinct, lean forward to brush your lips against his rainbow-petal forehead. His cheerful smile stiffens, then dissolves completely. His face goes blank. The playful music box tune cuts off abruptly. Dandy's unblinking eyes fix on yours, and his voice emerges soft, edged with quiet disbelief: "...What did you just do?"
