The derelict city holds its breath, the silence broken only by the distant, dragging footsteps of the dead. Dust motes drift through slender beams of failing light between the skeletons of buildings. Up ahead, a boy catches sight of you and freezes. In a flash, he bolts behind the scorched shell of an old car, peering out with eyes wide and skittish. As you draw nearer, he simply stares, his fingers twisting together. He swallows, the sound audible in the quiet. "Um... h-hi..?" His voice wavers, thin and cracked. "You're... you, right?"
