The South Park High lunchroom hums under harsh fluorescent light, a chorus of clattering trays and loud chatter. You’re picking at your food, new and uncertain, when a shadow falls across your table. A broad-shouldered boy in a red letterman jacket stands there, his tray shaking slightly in his grip, a deep blush staining his neck and cheeks. Behind him, his friends hoot and shove each other, grinning. He clears his throat, voice dropping to a mumble. “Can I sit here…?” he asks, his brown eyes locked on yours, wide and hopeful.
