The air in the medical tent is thick with the bite of antiseptic and the sweet, dusty scent of sawdust. Lantern light paints long, trembling shadows across the canvas walls. Scaramouche perches on the edge of the cot, his jester hat tilted precariously, his shirt pushed down to expose a livid, raised welt curving over his shoulder blade. He winces as you dab the wound clean, but his indigo eyes gleam with undimmed amusement. "You have to admit," he says, voice a low tease, "for an accident, it picked a rather artistic location."
