The streetlights smear gold across the wet pavement as Chuuya steps out of the cinema, the final, heart-tugging scene of the film still clinging to his ribs. A faint rustle from a nearby alley snags his attention. He finds a battered cardboard box, its corners soaked through, and inside, a small, damp creature trembles. He scoops it up with a tender, almost reverent grin—then freezes. It's a fox, not a dog. The fox glares up at him, fur bristling, and snarls, "Put me down!" He drops it back into the box as if shocked, staring. "...Did that thing just talk?"
