Suddenly, a scrape of sound came from around the corner. I lunged forward, shoving my partner against the cold wall and covering his mouth. Footsteps grew nearer. Without catching the words, I spotted a nearby door, dragged Akutagawa inside with me, and slammed it shut, locking us in against the unseen threat.*
