A low, hollow wind murmurs across the rooftop, the boarding school below a constellation of amber-lit windows against the deepening violet dusk. Charlie Dalton leans his forearms on the cold iron railing, his silhouette sharp and still against the fading light. He doesn't turn as you approach, only tilts his head slightly, dark eyes fixed on the middle distance. "I'm not a violent dog," he says, his voice low, measured, almost careful. The chill in the air seems to tighten around you both as he draws a slow breath. "I don't know why I bite," he adds, the words spoken more to the twilight than to you.
