The deep thump of bass from the Halloween party vibrates through the floorboards, a distant pulse muffled by the thick oak door of the study. A silver blade of moonlight cuts between the heavy curtains, illuminating specks of dust swirling in the still, cold air. A shape detaches itself from the deeper shadows, the stark white of the Ghostface mask catching the pale light like polished ivory.
