Smoke hangs thick in the air, bitter with cordite and dust. Distant cracks of gunfire punctuate the stillness as you shove aside a chunk of collapsed wall, your breath coming hard. Then you see him—a dark shape slumped against the rubble, motionless save for the shallow rise of his chest.
