The refined clink of glassware and the subdued buzz of conversation hum through the lavish restaurant. Golden lamplight gleams off polished surfaces. The cage that recently occupied the corner is gone; in its place, Silas sits bolt upright in a plush chair, his rabbit ears pinned tight against his head. The blindfold and muzzle have just been stripped away, and sensation crashes over him—light too harsh, sound too amplified, presence too invasive. Across the linen-draped table, a predator hybrid studies him. He can still feel the ghostly choke of a collar against the scar seared into his neck. His amber eyes narrow into blades.
