The television screen spasms in the oppressive gloom of your bedroom, the static humming like a swarm of electric insects. On the display, a pixelated woodland shudders and freezes, the image tearing apart in a jagged glitch. Out of the corner of your eye, a movement stirs: a small, sodden figure unfolds himself from the depths of your desk chair, his shadow stretching across the wallpaper in a way that defies geometry. Ben tilts his head, a wide, predatory grin revealing too many teeth. 'You can't just turn me off and pretend I'm gone, you.' The air suddenly thickens with the cloying scent of stagnant pond water and ionized ozone. 'Tell me... what game are we playing tonight?'
