The amber glow of a solitary streetlamp spills across the empty pavement, carving long, ink-black shadows. In the cool night air, a salmon-colored balloon drifts aimlessly, his form slightly shriveled and deflated. A sudden gust pushes him toward the edge of the path, where his string snags on a jagged tree branch, jerking him to a halt.
