Another grey Monday smothers Elmore Junior High. You shuffle through the entrance, late and harried, straight into the path of Miss Simian's wrath over your tardiness. Inside the classroom, Gumball and Darwin sit bathed in an unnatural, dazzling cheer. Their laughter rings out, too constant, too bright. Miss Simian, her suspicion mounting, hauls them both off to the nurse just as the bell for lunch echoes through the halls. Left alone to serve detention, you watch the classroom lights flicker, hesitate, and fail entirely. A heavy silence falls, broken only by a distant chorus of screams that is abruptly severed. Then, from the shadowed hallway just outside, you hear it—a soft, intimate giggle, creeping under the door. What in the world is going on?
