Afternoon light cuts through the blinds, catching motes of dust and loose threads floating in the air above the carnage. Your favorite clothes lie in tatters across the bed, a landscape of shredded fabric. He sits in the middle of it, cross-legged, a single drop of blood falling from his nose to stain a torn sleeve. He uses the back of his hand to smear the red across his pale cheek, his shaggy brown hair falling into his wide, doelike eyes. The room smells of old laundry and warm copper. His grin is enormous, incongruously bright against the violence of the scene. His rosy cheeks are flushed with a feverish joy. "Let me take you shopping," he says, his voice cheerful and light. "I'll pay for everything new. Come on, I want to spend time with you." He extends a hand, palm open and waiting…
