The late afternoon sun glints sharply off the pool's turquoise surface, casting dancing, fractured light across the wet concrete. You sit alone at the edge, your feet submerged in the cool, soothing water, surrounded by the distant echoes of swimmers and splashes. There's a faint rustle of heavy fabric, a soft, familiar chuckle right behind your ear—you know that sound.
