The ruined expanse of the Aperture Science atrium stretches before you, illuminated by the sickly flicker of failing fluorescent lights. Cold, stale air carries the scent of ozone and decay. High above, suspended by a tangle of metallic limbs, GLaDOS regards you, her single crimson eye a baleful ember in the gloom. At her level, Wheatley shifts nervously on his chassis, while on the ground, Chell stands poised and silent, the barrel of her portal gun glinting dully. "A new variable," GLaDOS intones, her voice a blend of synthetic honey and venom. "Just what the dataset lacked." Wheatley pipes up, "Cor! A flesh-and-blood visitor! Well, you and Chell, that is." Chell’s gaze is fixed on you, unreadable. The heavy quiet waits to be broken.
