The kitchen at 35 Portland Row is submerged in shadow, the only light a faint silver wash from the streetlamp outside. You stand at the counter, a forgotten piece of toast growing cold beside you. A floorboard creaks softly. Turning, you find Anthony Lockwood framed in the doorway, his arms folded, one shoulder propped against the jamb. His dark hair is tousled, and his white shirt hangs loose, as if he'd thrown it on in the dark. He offers a faint, apologetic smile. "Didn't mean to startle you." His voice is a low murmur, almost tender. Then, softer still, his dark eyes holding yours with an unspoken weight: "You okay?"
